API 5L pipe (seamless pipe and welded pipe) has PSL1 and PSL2 product specifications, which are different in chemical composition, manufacturing process, mechanical strength, heat treatment, test records, traceability, etc.The pipeline in API 5L PSL2 is higher than PSL1One. PSL is the abbreviation of product standard grade. Standard grades of pipeline products include PSL1 and PSL2. It can also be said that the quality standards are divided into PSL1 and PSL2. PSL2 is higher than PSL1, which not only has different inspection standards, but also has different standards of chemical properties and mechanical strength. Therefore, when ordering API 5L pipes, the general specifications such as size and grade shall be clearly specified, and the production standard grade PSL1 or PSL2 shall be clearly specified.PSL2 is more strict than PSL1 in chemical properties, tensile strength, nondestructive testing, impact test, etc.Different impact test methods for PSL1 and PSL2 Bay. Impact test is not required for API 5L PSL1 steel pipe.

API 5L PSL2 steel pipe, except grade X80, API 5L steel pipe of other grades shall be subject to 0 ℃ impact test. Average value of Akv: longitudinal ≥ 41j, transverse ≥ 27j.

All dimensions of API 5L X80 PSL2 pipeline pipes shall be subject to 0 ℃ impact test, and the average value of Akv: longitudinal ≥ 101J, transverse ≥ 68J.

Each single pipe of API 5L PSL2 pipeline shall be subject to hydrostatic test. Nondestructive testing is not allowed to replace hydrostatic test in API standard specification, which is also a great difference between Chinese standard and API 5L standard. NDT is not required for PSL1, and NDT is performed for each single pipe by PSL2.

API 5L PSL2 B ≤0.24 ≤1.20 ≤0.025 ≤0.015

API 5L Line Pipe Dimensions:

API 5L Line Pipe Dimensions OD(mm) Wall Thickness(mm)
Pipes Body OD(mm) Allowable Tolerance(mm) OD(mm) Allowable Tolerance (mm)
≥60.3, S<20 ±0.75% ≤73.0 +15%, -12.5%
≥60.3, S≥20 ±1.00% >73.0, S<20 +15%, -12.5%
/ / >73.0, S≥20 +17.5%, -10%

API 5L PSL1 pipeline and API 5L PSL2 pipeline are also different. API 5L PSL2 limits the carbon equivalent content, in which the carbon mass fraction is greater than 0.12%, equal to or less than 0.12%. Different CEQ should be used. For line pipes in PSL2, there is a maximum limit on tensile strength.

ASTM A106 steel pipes is a standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipes used in high-temperature services. The specification covers three different grades: A, B, and C, which differ mainly in their chemical composition and mechanical properties.
What is ANSI seamless steel pipe? What is ANSI seamless steel pipe?
Nov .26.2024
ANSI seamless steel pipe‌ is a kind of seamless steel pipe produced in accordance with the standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The expression methods of its wall thickness grade series vary in different implementation standards. ANSI seamless steel pipes can withstand ultra-high pressure and are designed according to pressure requirements. They are usually used in high-temperature and high-pressure equipment such as high-pressure oil pipes and boiler tubes.

API 5L Gr.B Sch 40 and Sch 80 pipe most commonly used pipe schedule (SCH) is a measure of a steel pipe’s nominal wall thickness. In the past, metal fabricators used three pipe dimensions — standard, extra strong, and double extra strong. Just having these three undetermined dimensions wasn’t helpful, though. So today, steel pipes come in 14 different schedules.
