ASME B36.10M Carbon Steel Seamless Wrought Steel Pipe

Item No.: 00189
The sizes of all pipes covered by ASME B36.10M can be identified by nominal pipe size (NPS) or its correlated nominal diameter (DN) designations. The pipe sizes range from NPS 1/8 (DN 6) to NPS 80 (DN 2000).
Description
Description
ASME B36.10M Carbon Steel Seamless Wrought Steel Pipe

The sizes of all pipes covered by ASME B36.10M can be identified by nominal pipe size (NPS) or its correlated nominal diameter (DN) designations. The pipe sizes range from NPS 1/8 (DN 6) to NPS 80 (DN 2000). The outside diameter of pipe NPS 1/8 (DN 6) to NPS 12 (DN 300) is numerically larger than its corresponding nominal sizes. The outside diameter of pipe NPS 14 and larger is numerically equal to the corresponding nominal size.

Pipe End Preparation

Generally, the pipe end may be furnished as plain end (PE), butt welding end (BW), threaded (NPT), or grooved. Plain end can be attained by a simple square cut process. Butt welding end shall be machined by a beveling machine in accordance with ASME B16.25. Pipe threads tapped on the pipe end shall conform to ASME B1.20.1. Schedules 5 and 10 wall thicknesses do not permit threading. Grooved ends shall be furnished in accordance with AWWA C606. There are two types of grooves: cut groove and rolled groove.

Weights/Masses & Wall Thicknesses

The nominal weights (masses) and wall thicknesses of steel pipe are listed in below four tables. The weights are calculated on the basis of plain end steel pipe using the following two formulas (a factor shall be multiplied when the pipe material is other than steel):

  • Wt = 10.69 ( D – t ) t; Wt: weight of pipe in lb/ft; D: outside diameter of pipe in inch; t: wall thickness in inch.
  • Wt‘ = 0.0246615 ( D – t ) t; Wt‘: weight of pipe in kg/m; D: outside diameter of pipe in mm; t: wall thickness in mm.

ASME B36.10M Carbon Steel Seamless Wrought Steel Pipe standard covers the standardization of dimensions of welded and seamless wrought steel pipe for high or low temperatures and pressures. The word pipe is used as distinguished from tube to apply to tubular products of dimensions commonly used for pipeline and piping systems. Pipe NPS 12 (DN 300) and smaller have outside diameters numerically larger than corresponding sizes. In contrast, the outside diameters of tubes are numerically identical to the size number for all sizes.
